date field not showing past years

Birthday: Only current and future year displayed and it does not make sense for birthday using date custom field.how to get past years

I have created a custom date field for a object and when i go through the page layout initialy date field does not show past years but when you scroll back month by month then it shows past years.

yeah.....atleast the year shouldnt be diplayed...only day and month will do...may be this shud be posted in ideaexchange
