Hi! I am in my personal sandbox trying to edit a profile. I am in as a User / System Administrator but I am unable to edit settings on any of the profiles. There is no "edit" button under "action".

Hi!  I am in my personal sandbox trying to edit a profile.  I am in as a User / System Administrator but I am unable to edit settings on any of the profiles.  There is no "edit" button under "action".

you need to dirlldown on a perticular item or entitiy for example if you are trying  ot updated the permissions of object then drilldown on perticular object where  you can see the edit button

Thanks but I have done that and no edit button. Perhaps I need to edit permissions on the System Administrator profile?

Could you please try adding "/e" in the URL like below: 
cs79.salesforce.com/00e1a000000XRPx/e

This will automatically load edit profile window.
