Cannot log into Data Loader for Trailhead Playground

I am attempting to complete a Trailhead project with the Data Loader app.  I am unable to log into the DataLoader for my Trailhead Playground.  I believe I have followed all suggestions I can find in the forum on the root cause of my issue.  Can someone help me figure out if I am doing something incorrectly?

Here is my login screen.  I have reset the security token and password per instructions, and am passing the password + security token in the password field.  I have created a new playground and repeated the reset steps for password and security token to make sure it is a fresh environment.

Change your Salesforce login URL to login.salesforce.com or use the custom domain URL

Raj V - I have since been able to log in by doing that, although it did not seem to work for me before.  I used a fresh playground and went through the steps to reset password and security token again and was finally able to log in using the 
https://login.salesforce.com/ URL. It is not clear to me exactly what finally allowed me to log in but it is working now.  There is alot of incomplete and misleading information and anwers on this topic.  Seems like it should be really simple.  Thanks for taking the time to answer...

I am having the same issue logging into Data Loader in the Trailforce Playground to complete the Data Import/Export Trail,  where do you reset or assign your security token?

Click on your profile 'Settings' link in the top right corner, and then select 'Reset My Security Token' in the Find panel on the left.

I also cannot log in.  I've reset my password twice AND reset my security token.   I'm using my trailhead username and the URL from above, but no luck.

I am in same boat.  I can see in login history that it gets to my org, but says invalid password.  I just reset password and security token, so i know it is the correct password.

This worked for me: reset password, reset security token, in the password field provide both "password" + "security token"

I finally managed to login to DataLoader by:

Requested the security token (Click on your username.. Settings/My Personal Information / Reset My Security Token), got this text string via email. Then login using URL: https://login.salesforce.com
Username (email address) you use for trailhead
Then the password is your password AND the security token added to end of it.

Faced Same issue , below are the things i followed . Trying to explain every step in detail ,what I did, may be helpful for someone out there new beginners like me.
1. Make sure in the apexDataloader > Settings, the URL is = https://login.salesforce.com
2. Go back to your salesforce org , right top corner - click on your user name >Settings/My Personal Information / Reset My Security Token
3. you will receive an email with username and secutiry token ,something like this
     Username: yourusername@****xxx-xxxx.com
    Security token (case-sensitive): xxx*********
4. Now get back to Dataloader , select 'password authentication'
  - username :- whatever you got in the email
    password :- yourtrailheadpassword+Security token received in the email

I also got stuck in this problem and couldn't find a way to log in with my playground. 
Steps you should follow :
1. You should open Playground Starter App from App Menu
2. Get to 'Get Your Login Credential' tab.
3. You will find your username 
4. For password click reset my password button. It won't affect your production org's password. It is just for this particular playground.
5. Follow the steps to reset your password. You may put same password as your production org's.
6. Open Data Loader. 
7. Choose any option. Preferably, Password Authentication
8. Fill your credentials and you are done.
