How do you turn off auto number on a record type

Can someone advise if there are any updates on Salesforce on how to turn off Auto Number for certain record types

Hi Debbie,
I do not think if record type has any option/drives Auto-Number fields. Only Picklist fields values have a dependency on record types. Can you please elaborate the exact need ?

I am wanting to transfer data from one Salesforce Org to another. I want thahe current number to populate into the new Salesforce Auto number field. How can I transfer the current auto number eg 2016-123 and 2015-123 etc into the new org. The new Salesforce org started at this year 2017. I need to transfer data from 2015 & 2016.
