can any one tel me can i increase the limit for the help text
which is by default 255 characters

Hi Satya,

1) You can create a VisualForce page(s) and insert into your page layout.
or
2) Completely change your layouts to be a very custom VisualForce page. You can then do javascript to display whatever and any amount of data you want.
or
3) You a 3rd party tool like these two: I hope it will be helpful.

We can not increase the Help Text characters limit.

But you can follow the below link. It would be helpful for you.
