Can we add new value to standard picklist field and set it Default?

I want to add value-"Open" on standard Picklist field "Status" available on standard Object. And also want to set it as Default. I tried doing it but no Luck. Please assist

Default values are not available for some picklists. You can set a default value on custom picklist field but not on the standard picklist field. You can use URL hacks, Visualforce page overrides, workflows, triggers, etc.

Hi AK Singh, based on your requirement, I carried out an Experiment on Lead Status and Status (Standard Picklist) field from Lead and Case (Standard) object and turns out that we can add a new value to the picklist and even assign them as a default value. 

In Lead Status picklist field, we can assign 'Open' as Default Value while creating it.

Whereas in Status picklist of Case object, we go to 'Reorder' and there within we can assign 'Open' as Default Value.

Thanks keval for your time on this. However I want to create default picklist  value on standard Object- Order. Default Picklist value check box not available there

The picklist values are at the bottom of the page. You can create a new value by clicking New. Attention: Add the new value and make sure you mark the record type checkboxes to add the value to that page layout. Any checkbox left unmarked will not contain the new value https://www.tellsubway.website/
