Can we use Picklist field as External ID field in dataloader ?

I'm tyring to import data into salesforce using Dataloader .

In dataloader i'm trying to map external id field to salesforce picklist field but i'm not able to select picklist field in Lookup Via option . 

Is there a possibility to do it ?

I don't think this can be possible as the External ID will allow not allow the other data types other than the ID or Text types.We have an existing Idea for the same:
