If a sharing rule is written on an object, does that mean, only that particular "Roles and Sub Ordinates" mentioned in the rule can see the record ?
Hello Everyone,
I have an object, which has got a sharing rule written on it. It is being shared with a specific role. Does that mean, only the users in that specific role will see that record? and no one else?
Please help me understand this scenario.
Thanks in advance

Greetings!
Yes,the role users can only access the record based on the criteria that you have setup in the sharing rule. But,if your org wide default settings are public Read/Write then the sharing rules can be ignored.

Hello Roy,
It also depends on what is the "Grant Access Using Hierarchies" set to on that specific object, it's TRUE for all standard objects but can be set to FALSE for custom objects.
If this is set to true, then based on your role hierarchy, all users who are above the users in "Role and subordinates" will have access to this data.
Hope this clarifies.
Best,
