How is SubTaskType determined by Salesforce?

When we don't specify the SubTaskType field, how does Salesforce determine what the value should be? A Call is technically a task but SubTaskType is set to Call instead of Task.

Hi Abhishek,

My question is for SubTaskType and not Task Type. The blog only covers Task Type.
