last modified date by field not object

Is there a way to track last modified date of a particular field rather than object? Fotr example, if Accout.name was changed could we track when this field was last updated?

I believe you want field level history tracking on account.  This already exists on Custom Object and Case and Opportunity.

There's an idea on the ideaexchange that you can vote on for audit history on Account.
