Auto-populating a field via a custom field?

Is it possible to create a field that auto-populates from another customized field? Eg...Under 'Accounts', I created a customized field with a picklist. I'd like to take the info from that field and have it auto-populate under Contacts or Cases.

I think it is impossible thought. But this is a very important feature that needs to be added if it is not available. I believe this will help incredible applications to be developed. Also in a case I needed to use a table, and to lookup a value following a given formula. This is imortant too...
Maybe we need to suggest this in the IdeaExchange section!
