facing an issue in updating record type id value through data loader

Hi All,
 
I am facing an issue when i try to update the record type id for the case records to change the page layout.
i have two different pagelayouts.one for migrated cases and the other for salesforce cases. there are some migrated cases that are having a different layout then desired. so i tried to change the record type id value to the migrated record type, so that the page layout will be updated to migrated one.
 
But it is not updating and at the same time no errors are reported in the data loader.
Can some one pls help me in this.

The data loader has been solid for me.  I've never see it fail to report errors.  Does the same operation work when you do it through the UI?

Any chance you have a workflow rule that is changing the record type back to the original value?

If you activate History Tracking for the Record Type field and try making an update again with the Data Loader, you should either get an error from the Data Loader or see in a record's history that the record type was changed. Good luck.
