sObject Organization

Is the sObject [Organization] common to all Salesforce accounts?
 
I have a customer that doesn't have this sObject in his Salesforce account, how can I retrieve the account information if the [Organization] sObject doesn't exist?

Organization is a standard object and always exists, but it might not be available to that user's profile (I believe users currently need to have View Setup and Configuration to see this object). If I'm wrong, let me know; I haven't actually tested this recently.

Our customer has the Salesforce Professional Edition, and we understand that profiles cannot be managed in this edition, so we'd like to know which profiles include this permission (View Setup and Configuration), so we can advise our customers with the allowed profiles to install our application.
