What Fields are actually being used???

Hello Everyone, and thank you in advance!

I'm new to this board....

I was recently hired by a company that has been using SF for approximately 3 years, there have been 3 admins before me that have "muddied" up the database in my opinion.

I'm looking for a simple solution, that will let me know what fields are actually being used, with out having to run a custom report to see when each field was last modified...

Again, Thanks!

I used to do this:

run excel connector, query a bunch of rows from the table in question over a recent period of time returning all columns.
then zoom the sheet way out and try to find the columns that had little or no data.

fields with little or no data are probably not being used.
