Salesforce IDE Exception

I have just installed Eclipse 3.4 and the Force IDE but I have a problem accessing metadata for our production

site, when I goto 'choose' metadata componants when creating a new project I get an exception:

'unable to refresh file metadata list'.

The funny thing is I only get the issue with the production version, the Sandbox, and my developer account

seem to work fine?

Any ideas what this error could mean?

You can view the log file of the Exception here:

Thanks for any help.

I've asked our developers to look into this issue.  Thanks for your post.

This issue should be resolved in a server patch going out this Wednesday evening (10/14).

For three days, I have been unable to set up a working instance of the Eclipse IDE, I think due to the same/similar problem.

Attempting to add/remove components to a project is failing.

Using Eclipse for Java Developers (Helios):

When I click the "Choose..." button, next to "Selected metadata components:," I get an error message:

Unable to refresh file metadata:

Connection timed out: connect

Closing this box generates another error:

Unable to open custom component selection dialog

An unexpected error has occurred. Please try again, or check the log file for details

This happens in both production and sandbox editions.

Tried this with my firewall disabled, too. Same problem.

Using Classic Eclipse (Helios):

Attempting to create a project triggers the error message:

Unable to fetch organization details for: <my login name>:

Connection timed out: connect

To ignore this error and create an empty Project without connecting to the server, click Create Offline.

Using Eclipse Classic (Ganymede):

Same behavior as Eclipse for Java developers (Helios)

On a side note (probably a separate issue but maybe related), the Standalone IDE immediately returns an error when I try to run it:

JVM terminated. Exit code=-1

[about a half-page of command parameters]
