Can a customized field in a standard page be set to hidden?

Hi,
 
I would like to ask if it's possible to add a field in, say account page, wherein i can set it to hidden, so that i can save the value in the db at the same time only it is not visible to the users?
 
Please help.

I assume from your post that you want to hide the field from everyone, right?  The easiest way to achieve this is to simply take it off the page layout.

Thanks for that brilliant idea. :D

It's ok anyway, I found out that a customized field has a property which visibility can be hidden from user's eye but not in developer's/the system.
