Nope; so far, all fields in a formula must come from the same table.
While quite a few people have asked for this to be extended, it never hurts to add your thoughts to the list. Make sure to submit a request through the support tab in salesforce...
I would love to see this feature in a future release of the product. This would make the formulas feature much more powerful. I think it would reduce the need for a programmer even more for IT guys like myself.
I am making a custom object and I want to show the current value of a source field in another (standard) object within the custom object. Whenever the source field changes, I want the view in the custom object to remain correct.
We really need this functionality. Now it seems that the only way to do it is to Buy a Server, Install IIS on it and write a web application to get the same functionality. All I want to do is like this:
