As far as I know, you can not clone a object in salesforce with all componens and validation etc. The reason for that may be the api name of the objects and field names. Salesforce assigns a unique api name for all objects and field names and which are referenced in their respective components and validations etc.
1. I want an object similar to the one I created with just a few changes. I can always re create the object - but was wondering if there is an easier way to do it (clone and then make the changes).

Are you trying to clone the object in the same org or from one org to another?

Unfortunately there is not a way to do this.
There is no way to clone the object in the same org.
