Assignment Rules

Hi,

 

Could someone please tell me how assignment rules work. I have a created a new queue and an assignment rule for Leads. The assigment rule does not work as per the criteria that I have set. Please give me some pointers.

How are Leads being created? Is it via the native Salesforce user interface, Visualforce page, Web2Lead or other import / API process? Can you post an example of the rules you are using and exactly what isn't working?

The Leads are created from the Salesforce user interface. I have a very simple assingment rule set, the criterea is Lead Status. When the status is changed to Closed the lead needs to be assigned to a queue and an email to be sent.

 

The assignment rule is not firing automatically, I am required to put a check mark every time while editing the Lead. I do not want to do this.
