SFDC Global Search - How To Add Fields To This Search / What Fields Are Added by Default?

Hello,

 

In relation to SFDC Global search, how can I add a field to this search? Is it only custom fields that can be added or can I specify that an existing SFDC field can be added to this?

 

Is there any documentation on how the global search is configured? I did not find any on searching.

Go to the respective object and look at search list and you should have the option to add the fields

You cannot add custom field to search but you can search on custom fields.Custom Object which contains this custom field will be displayed.

Even I have a requirement where I need to view few more fields of Contact object when I see the global search results.
I tried to follow the steps provided above. I went to Contact object under Search layout. But there is no search list where we can add fields.
Please help.
