Can't change Opportunity "Stage Name"

Why can't I edit an Opportunity Stage Name after I've created it? I can edit all of the other Stage properties (Type, Probability, etc) but not Stage Name.

You don't have the option to edit it but try to replace with the existing one, that should work out.

Thanks for your reply. I don't get it though. What's the point of preventing an edit of the Stage name?

Thats standard function in Sf, the only way to do this is replace it, this is same as edit function

I understand it's the standard functionality in Salesforce, I just don't get why. Many other picklists/fields can have their names changed.
