Force IDE problems starting

Anyone have problems installing or running the Force IDE on windows XP?

After installing i get errors:

JVM terminated exit code= -1

-Dfile.encoding=UTF-8

-Xms256m

-Xmx1024m

etc...

Any ideas?

Ok, I found another post which said to add the following arguments to the 'target' box in the shortcut for the application:

-vmargs -Xms256m

add the above outside of the quotes.

example:

"C:\Program Files\salesforce.com\Force.com IDE\forceide.exe" -vmargs -Xms256m

that did the trick, thanks!!  anyone know why this happens?  2 separate xp 32bit machines had same problem but win7 64bit worked without any issue

Thank heavens for the solutions here!  This problem has been ongoing for about a year, looking at all the posts that come up with the search "JVM Terminated".  They mostly seem to be the same problem.  Which I had as well - on 32bit Windows, installing stand-alone IDE, it will not start.  (Until one of the fixes here is done.)

Salesforce, this should be fixed!

Thanks everyone for the solutions.  (2 different ones are here on the discussion board, which both work.)

This worked!  Thanks!
