Email Notifications

In a Task an email notification can be sent but it is sent when the event is created. Is there a way to create a rule to make it so that the email is sent 24 hours before the task is due?

Yes it can be done through workflow rules , in case you want the email to go out 24 hrs before the task's due date, which implies the task is already created in the system but the due date has not reached yet.

You can achieve your requirement via Time dependant Workflow rules. In case you need further clarifications do drop me a message.
