Can't relate a Task to a Contact

When I create a Task using the button in the related list on the Contact object, the task does not appear in the list.

I can't use "Relate To" to relate the task to the contact because Contact does not appear in the drop-down.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You need to fill in the "Name" field in the Task to relate it to a Contact or Lead - the "Who".

The "Related To" field is the "What".

Thanks for your reply!

I can't see a Name field on the New Task form though. There is an "Assigned To" lookup, but it only lets you look up Users, not contacts.

Any ideas?

Thanks again

Did you hide "Name" from your Page Layout?

I wish it was so simple! I've just had a look at the page layout for Tasks, and strangely enough, Name is on there! But it is not showing up on the actual page.

I am system admin, so it's probably not permissions ... any idea why it would show up on the Edit Layout page but not the real page?

Thanks again

I've worked it out - it WAS permissions. Somehow the Name field was made invisible at the level of field security.

Thanks for your help
