Any timeline for the Soap API to be deprecated?

Players like LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter have long ago deprecated their Soap based APIs in favour for REST APIs.

Any similar plans for Salesforce..?

We have REST APIs, but we also have no plans to deprecate the SOAP APIs either, use whichever one makes sense for the language/environment you're using.
