Make standard field Name not visible in page

Hi,

 

Is it possible to make the standard field Name of a custom object invisible?
Field Name can not be removed from a page layout. Is there a way to make it invisible?

No some of the Standard fields cannot be removed from the page layout, for ex: Name.

The only way I see it possible is using Visualforce page and overriding the Standard page functionality.
