Which emails get routed through email relay service?

Does anyone know which emails originating from SFDC hit the email relay server (if one is configured)? I understand any user initiated emails are relayed but what about:

- Workflow notifications

- Scheduled reports and dashboards

- Chatter notifications

- Others?
