Understanding Client IDs

I am new to and I was looking at this Ruby gem - and tried to use it. I am stuck where it is asking for a client id

I think I am missing something fundamental about, how do I find out what my client id is?

In the interface, Setup->Develop->Remote Access, create a new Remote Access, then the Consumer Key is the Client Id in OAuth.
