What version of Axis is supported?

Just starting on SF development, I was wondering what version of Axis should I use.  I would like to use the version that was used to write the samples at this website.

 

Is this the version I should use: http://www.apache.org/dyn/closer.cgi/ws/axis/1_4

I am using 1.4.  It is ok

Apache Axis 1.4 goes well. I am using that for a while. You can also check my project that gives easy to use wrapper over Apache Axis for salesforce, more details here http://code.google.com/p/tolerado-salesforce-web-services-client-wrappers/
