Professional Edition Data Backup

Hi,

I am working with client who is on Professional Edition. The client would like to take back-up of data and configuration before making configuration changes.

On data side, the client would like keep certain Account and related records and delete remaining recrods. Since the client is on Profiessional edition, I will not be able to use Data Loader to mass delete or mass insert/upsert.

Any suggestion on how I can back-up configuration and data.

Thanks in Advance,

Amit

1) Data can still be migrated using the Excel Connector for Professional Edition. It leverages the Office Toolkit API, which is a limited API used by Outlook, Word, and Excel integrations, and is the only pre-approved API usage for Professional Edition. This should be trivial to use.

2) The configuration may be backed up using a Sandbox or the Metadata API toolkit. Normally, consultants can request limited-time access to the API to go in and perform API actions for a limited time (usually a couple of days at maximum). You could have the API enabled, grab a metadata snapshot, and then they can turn it back off. They can turn it back on later if you need to. Note that this will require interaction with Technical Support, so it's a relatively annoying method, but for a one-shot deal, it's probably the easiest way to get a full meta-data backup. The Sandbox option allows you to back up your configuration into a Developer or Configuration-Only Sandbox. You can find this in Setup > Data Management > Sandbox. This method doesn't allow deletions, but you can back up picklist values, page layouts, and so on, and use a Change Set to push some or all of this configuration back into your production if something goes wrong.

Hi Amit,

Sfdcfox suggests good solutions for a one-time backup, but you might consider recommending daily backups on an ongoing basis as part of a comprehensive business continuity plan for your clients. We provide automated daily backups of Salesforce and Chatter to unlimited Amazon S3 secure storage, reducing time spent by system admins exporting and storing data on-premise.

CloudAlly supports Group, Professional, Enterprise (non-profit) and Unlimited editions. You can activate Salesforce backups for multiple organizations and we provided unlimited retention of your archived data so you can recover data from any point in time.

And if you're a Google Apps user, we backup all domains associated with your Google Apps account as well.

Please let me know if you're interested in our Referral or Reseller / MSP program and I will be happy to provide additional information.
