Possible to track whether a Contact opened an email sent to him or her through SFDC?

Hi-

If I send an email from within Salesforce to a Contact, is there any way I can tell as an admin whether that Contact opened or did not open the email?

No .If contact email does not exist you will receive Mail-Undelivered email.

The usual mechanism for tracking email responses / reads is to embed a 1 pixel invisible image in the email, which is a link to an image on the org. The URL embedded will be such that it will pass back a reference to a detail such as the account or customer id of the email recipient.

When the user opens up this email to read it, the url will be accessed (if load images is enabled and the email client has not blocked images at the recipients end), and therefore it will serve as a callout to your salesforce org. This event can be captured and used to track email reads.

Marketing tools such as ExactTarget available on the App Exchange make this possible with extensive reporting and help to set up campaigns and target customers.

Hi,

If you use an HTML template inside Salesforce.com to send the mail it has this one pixel image in there automatically and Salesforce provides a related list on the contact ('HTML Email Status') which gives you the information if and when the mail has been opened.

Hope this helps.
