Considering Developing An App: Field Value validation for Excel Spreadsheets

Hi -

 

I am thinking of developing an app (desktop client, or excel VBA, or web-based) to validate the field constrains for values in a spreadsheet or csv.

 

This will allow our partners to put together a set of data, format, and validate their formatting before sending to us for insertion into Salesforce.

 

Has anyone done anything like this before? Is there an app already out there? Does anyone see any problems with doing this?

Yes, we created a spreadsheet with macros that walk the data, validate phone numbers and email addresses as well as searches for missing data and invalid picklist values.

We send it out to our clients that have legacy data in flat file format and they can run the validation scripts and fix their data before sending it to us for inserting it into their new ORG.
