Is it possible to enable Service Cloud on a Free Developer Edition instance?

I want to be able to lear about Salesforce Knowledge, which seems to be part of the "Service Cloud" http://www.salesforce.com/crm/editions-pricing-service.jsp

Is your developer instance a new one or is there any chances it has been created before November 2009? 

Knowledge is available only in developer instances created after the first release of Knowledge, in November 2009.

Looks like I created it on 6/24/09 so that must be it. I'll look into deleting this instance and creating a new one, thanks for the tip!

 

I was thinking that the instance would automatically be upgraded (and features added to it) automatically. Does it make sense to delete and request new instances every so often?

Based on what i saw on the other posts, there is a possibility that you can do that.
