How to package page layout

I have a custom button/link that I added to the default Opportunity page layout. Unfortunately, I have not been able to export the page layout in a page. Is there a way to do this that I'm missing or is it not allowable?

Only page layouts on Custom Objects are packageable (it's included automatically when you package the custom object). You cannot package page layouts on Standard Objects, such as Opportunity. The admin would need to manually add the custom link/button to the layout after installing the package.
 
Vote for the idea to help get this implemented.

While it isn't that difficult to add it would be nice to avoid requiring admins to take this additional step.
