Can my customer upgrade his app from one package to another?

I just discovered that the last guy created two packages in my dev org, one Application Name and one Application Name - OLD. These aren't two VERSIONS of the application but rather two PACKAGES for the application. Obviously, Application Name - OLD has been deprecated and only Application Name is now available on the AppExchange.

 

My question is, can my customer who has already installed Application Name - OLD upgrade cleanly to Application Name?

Another detail: the OLD package was un-managed and the current package is managed.

No, you customers will have to uninstall OLD and install the managed one.  Then you'll be all set moving foward.

What happens to their data when they uninstall?

They will get an export file they can download of it.  Then using the data loader, they will have to reinsert the date after install of the managed package.
