Workflow email a customer through HTML Email

I have created a simple workflow rule that sends a lead an email with a particular attachment based on a simple checkbox.  The problem is I get no history, either through Activity History or HTML Email Status.  Is there a way to do this?  I can get it in to History via an additional workflow rule, but would prefer to track through HTML email.

Did you ever figure this out? I am having the same problem.
facing the same issue, workflow emails are not tracked in Activity History. How can I track?

I cannot believe that a user cannot track an email that was created for a workflow.  What is the point of making the email process efficient/automated and then negating it all by not tracking the outcome???

At each action from a workflow rule when sending an email, just create a task update action with, for example, email 1 was sent, and this is how you can track at what email you are.
