Simple question regarding formulas and custom fields

Hello,

I was trying to add a formula to a field and i need to use some custom fields i created. The problem is i cannot find the field i created. When i show the formula editor, i only have 3 types of field type, organization, system and user. But none of them contain my custom fields. How do i add my custom fields into a formula?

Are your creating your formula in the same object as your custom fields? 

 

If the custom fields are in Opportunity table when you create the formula and are shown the formula editor Opportunity should be the first item in the Insert Field pick list.  When you clickOpportunity it will display the opportunity fields to the right including your custom fields.
