Best resource for understanding what functions work with other functions?

Hello to all,

 

I'm new to Salesforce.com, and am curious to know if there is any resources available which provide reference to what formulas (validation rule, or value based) work with other functions when properly nested. What would really help me would be an organized chart in which confirmed what function combinations work, and which combinations do not work. Thank you for any help!

Hi,

Salesforce Online help has a detailed list of all functions and loads of examples. Examples will help you learn the use of these functions and formulas...There isn't any chart available for all functions but it's still very helpful.

Help & Training on Functions may be best resource as they mention for each function where it can be used.

 

Example:

PARENTGROUPVAL

Description:A summary function that returns the value of the selected summary field from the parent grouping level that you specify. Parent grouping levels are those above the grouping level where you chose to display the formula. For matrix reports, choose both row and column grouping levels.

You can use this function only in the context of creating custom summary formulas for summary reports.
