Help please with creating a new field in opportunities that is an auto number

Help please with creating a new field in opportunities that is an auto number which is generated from existing fields adding the state, created date and first 3 letters of the opportunity name together.

Can you post an example/mock-up of the exact format as you want your custom field to appear on the Opportunity?  

 

For example:  

Dunder Mifflin, New Business opportunity located in Scranton, PA, Created on 07/04/09 = 

"PA-070409-New"

Formula based on a document number to include

 

State, created date, and first 3 letters of the opportunity name:

 

California, 10-07-2010, Delta

 

so CA10072010DEL

Is your State/Province field stored in the US/CA Alpha-2 Postal format, or do you have a mix of Texas, TX, California, CA, MA, Mas, Massachusetts..."? 

 

Also, in your post you described your field as a "Auto-Number" but I don't see any Number if your Field, just State, Date, Oppty Name.
