Custom Field to count number of contacts

Hey Guys,
 
I want to create a field within Accounts that counts the number of contacts associated with that account. The reason being that it will allow me to identify any accounts that have no contacts associated with it.
 
I thought this might be the solution as I'm not aware of an easy way to do it within normal reporting.

Hi Colin, one option is to create an Accounts and Contacts report, and then flag all of the accounts on this report with some new custom field.  Then re-import that list so that the new custom field, on the Account, is updated with this flag.  Now all of your Accounts with at least 1 contact are flagged.  Then run an Account report and filter on those Accounts that have a value for this new custom field.

You have the ability to build exception reports for things like Accounts w/o Contacts or Accounts w/o Opportunities among other things.
