Add a button within the Edit Page Layout

I need to add a custom button to the Edit page layout on a case record.  I have succesfully added this button to the page layout, but I need to have this visable while the user is in edit mode.  I have contacted SF basic support and they were unable to guide me through.  Any suggestions?

You cannot add or remove buttons on the Edit Page with the page layout.  You can only control the Detail Page Buttons.  To add a button to an edit page you need to dip into Visualforce.

What if you were to add a custom button to the custom links and buttons list, then link it to Marketsync outside of salesforce?

I already created my marketsync hyperlink and button, but I am having trouble moving the link that exists for the marketsync action and replacing it with the custom button.  : (  Many days of pulling out hair here.

Could you shed some light on what I need to do to get it on the contacts page?
