Will the web to lead form create duplicate leads?

We are in the early stages of implementing SF.com and had some questions regarding the web to lead form. Will the form create a duplicate lead if the information already exists in the system as a lead, account or contact?

Any information you have on web to lead forms and duplicates would be helpful.

Unfortunately the web to lead form does not check for duplicates.  There may be some advance integration you can use but the basic form does not check.  Salesforce.com in general does not de-dupe very well.  We use third party software to de-dupe lists as we upload them into SF as well as run a de-dupe once a week.
