I'd like to create an Opportunity task based on an associated Case status. I know that you can only create a task for a workflow of the same type, so I'm not sure how to go about solving this one.
If a Case status changes, then assign a task to do something in the associated Opportunity (and thus associating the task to the Opportunity, not the Case)
Any thoughts?

Instead of writting a trigger, use a work flow rule which creates a task when the case status changes.
