Checkbox Validation Rule

So, I am a fairly new user to Salesforce. I haven't had any real proper training yet due to cost. I was wondering if someone could help me.

 

I want to know if there is a validation rule that is simple to set up for a checkbox. For example -

 

If in an opportunity you select a stage that is over 50% probability then the "Proposal Out" checkbox will autofill with a check mark.

It is possible to do the field update as you described, but it is done via workflow, not validation rules. You should look at the Salesforce online help and possibly an online training class as well to help familarize yourself with workflow rules and field updates.
