ORA-06512 Error on WebTo Lead Servlet post

I get a weird error when posting to a full sandbox environment but only on certain custom text fields - all visible to all users and not required or external id or unique etc. Some of the identically configured fields will post, but some others will not.

 

seems to be no pattern to the problem.
