Reg: Gender Field (Summer 12) at object creation

Hi,

 

At Object Creation after the label and plural label (in summer12) we can see a new picklist field with the name "Gender" with values (neuter and common). 

 

Why salesforce has this field? what is the purpose of this field?

For translation of the word into another language. Some languages (Spanish for example) have two words that represent a single english word (one for Male one for Female, and sometime gender neutral).
