pkhere Scenario:
For the Object Opportunity a child object(custom) "New Object"
As the save button is hit, before saving client requires to capture some more requirements.
Before saving opportunity record client wants to enter New Object record and save altogether
Are you referring to the standard Opportunity edit page or a custom edit page. You can't edit the standard save button to alter or add actions. You would need to use a custom vf page to edit the opportunity and a custom save button with a corresponding save method if you want to alter the behavior on save.

You can't play with standard Edit page,if you want to do something out of box then you have to override the edit page to a VF page and on the Save of the record,you can achieve your requirement by writing amethod in the Apex controller.
