Salesforce Profile, Record Type and PageLayout Metadata file Backup

Hi Guys, 

 

      We are deleting certain unnecessary profiles, Record Types and PageLayouts from our org But Before We do that We want to backup their MetaData file so in future if we want we can restore those profiles.

 

We haven't done this before but I am sure some guys here had done this.

 

Give me your thoughts and suggestions here.

You can use Force.com IDE or Force.com pluging for Eclipse to create a local project of any Org.

Hi Chamil,

I've used Eclipse a bit before though I'm still new at it.

I downloaded the Profile metadata and it's a great way to back up the system permissions for a profile.

How about Object Settings and other details relevant to a profile (like page layout assignments)?
