Text Message out of Salesforce

Does anyone have experience with sending text messages out of salesforce by asking for the user's email address that their carrier turns into a text message and then sends (and bills for)?

 

Any one know an easier way to do that?

I think you can use outbound messaging or can do SOAP callouts.

Couple of steps:
1) Do a quick google search to find out the @somewhere.com that each of the different providers appends to the end of numbers to convert an email automatically to a text.
2) Ask the User who their provider is and what their phone number is.
3) Send an email to usersphone#@providerextension.com
