It is a standard object of Salesforce.
From CRM perspective, OPPORTUNITY is the core object which drive the Sales Service. Throgh this object we can get the real picture of a business. Like, what is Stage, What is closing Date, What is the Revenue etc..... Please let me know if you need other information.
